BaliGo would like to share with you some of our favourite eateries in Bali, both new and old. Whether you’re looking for a hearty meal, a light snack, or just a nice cup of coffee to get you started, we guarantee that you would only be eating and drinking the best of the best here.
Salumeria Tanah Barak, Canggu
Salumeria Tanah Barak is one of the freshest eateries in Canggu, Bali. Tucked away from the busyness of the main streets is a place where you can sit back and feel like a fancy adult. With an expansive menu that covers everything you could possibly want at an Italian Ristorantino – spuntinis and antipastis, salads and sandwiches, and of course salumi and cured meats. What’s most interesting is their selection of local Balinese and Indonesian artisan cheeses. We’re not sure where Geoff Lindsay, the owner and renowned Australian chef, sourced them, but they definitely stand their ground against other imported cheeses.
Make sure you come at least once on a Monday, as they have a special “The World is Your Oyster” promotion when their freshly shucked Sumatran oysters are only IDR 10,000 ea!
Golden Monkey, Ubud
Golden Monkey, Ubud is Ubud’s first (and only) authentic Chinese restaurant. Located on the corner of Jl. Dewisita and Jl. Gootama, Golden Monkey is in a central location that’s easily accessible for pedestrians. Parking for cars, however, is a little bit more difficult. We recommend getting dropped off by your hotel or parking on the main road and walking down south. As is central in the photo above, we highly recommend their fluffy, freshly tossed Chinese Fried Rice. While it may not look like a show stopper, it certainly tastes like one. Also, don’t forget to order the Eggplant Clay Pot and the Mixed Assortment of Dimsum.

One Eyed Jack, Canggu
While One Eyed Jack, Canggu is not by any means new, it has certainly stood the test of time and continues to churn out quality dishes day in and day out. A favourite of locals and visitors alike, One Eyed Jack has taken modern Japanese cuisine and turned it on its head with a fusion of South East Asian flavours. If you come here, you simply must try the Soy-Marinated Cod. We guarantee you, 110% that it will be the best you’ve ever had – we still dream about the dish to this day.

La Calita, Canggu
If you’re ever in the area, we implore you to go and try La Calita, Canggu. One of the best cocktail bars in the area, they only use organic produce for your drinks. Even the syrups are house-made and most will use honey instead of simple syrup. Of course, what’s a drink without the food? La Calita also has an extensive range of Mexican finger food. From tacos to nachos, burgers and con carne, you’ll never go hungry while you’re here.

It just wouldn’t be a Top 5 List without a restaurant by Chef Will Meyrick. Hujan Locale, Ubud is one of those timeless modern Indonesian restaurants that is simply a must-try when going to Bali. A reinvention of some of Indonesia’s classic dishes, you can do no wrong when ordering here. We do, however, recommend you try the Salted Cod Croquette, a combination of Dutch colonial cuisine, bitterballen and English favourite, fish and chips.
